IITM Heritage Centre

We have already raised Rs. 7.07 lakhs (approx. $11,110) for the Heritage Centre at the Golden Jubilee Reunion in Chennai, India. This should be added to the above total raised on this page on the IITMAANA site.

 

About the IIT Madras Heritage Centre Project

The IIT Madras Heritage Centre was inaugurated on 3 March 2006. It is located on the ground floor of the Administration Block. Presently it has a display area, an off-display archival section, and a space for audio-visual presentations. The Heritage Centre Collection of artifacts include photographs, campus publications, newspaper clippings, the foundation stone that was laid at the inauguration of the institute in 1959 and so forth.

 

Objectives of the Heritage Centre

  • Showcase the various strands of the heritage of IIT Madras (historical, natural, technological) to campus visitors, alumni and anyone interested in the Institute
  • Highlight the present activities (teaching, research, consultancy, incubation) at the Institute
  • Present the vision and plans of IIT Madras for the future

 

Future Plans to Revamp/Expand the Heritage Centre 

  • Digitization of the Centre's collections
  • Physical remodelling of the Heritage Centre
  • Enrollment of student volunteers to man the Heritage Centre regularly
  • Expansion of the archives

 

Cost and Schedule

 

Plan is to raise $100,000 by the end of 2016 with the Alumni and Corporate donations, and to open the expanded IIT Madras Heritage Centre by July 31, 2017.
