Sagar Pushpala
'81 BTech, Chemical Engineering


Sagar is currently vice president of specialty technology marketing at TSMC, a leading wafer fab foundry. He was previously an operational advisor to many technology start-ups.
Prior to that, he was CEO of TSI Semiconductors, a niche, specialty analog mixed-signal foundry focused on technologies and manufacturing services serving emerging technology products. For the past 30 years, Sagar has held executive and senior-level operations, engineering, and technology management positions at such analog & mixed-signal companies as Intersil, Maxim, National Semiconductor, Saratoga Semiconductor, and AMD. Previously an Operating Partner at Khosla Ventures, Sagar continues to serve in board and advisory roles for many system and medical device companies. In addition, he has held board positions in various industry consortiums, including the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) and the Fab Owners Association (FOA).
Sagar's mix of experience from technology development to manufacturing gives him a well-rounded view on how to innovate, adapt to new environments, and serve customers that are on the leading edge of technology. Even on the weekends, you’ll find him in coffee, lunch, and wine settings, learning about new businesses and how they operate. He thrives on working with customers of all sizes, helping them explore new breakthrough technologies and achieve operational excellence. Sagar is passionate about expanding IITM alumni outreach in North America, working with the leadership team, esteemed alumni and various local chapters. He intends to collaborate with various support organizations and maximize social, professional and 'giving' initiatives among alumni in North America. Sagar holds a BTech degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras (1981), and MS in Chemical Engineering from The University of Kansas (1984).
Dhinakar Kompala
'79 BTech, Chemical Engineering


Dhinakar Kompala obtained his B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India in 1979 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, USA in 1982 and 1984 respectively. He served on the aculty of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder since 1985. He was a recipient of Presidential Young Investigator award from National Science Foundation in 1988.

Dhinakar’s research expertise is in bioprocess engineering, recombinant mammalian and microbial cell cultures, bioreactor design and operating strategies, metabolic engineering, and modeling of biological growth and production processes. He trained over 30 graduate and postdoctoral researchers, most of whom have joined the biotechnology industry. He served on editorial boards of the Journal of Biotechnology, International Journal of Biological Sciences and as Section Editor of BMC Biotechnology.

Dhinakar was co-founder of a biotech startup company, Richcore Lifesciences Private Limited, in Bangalore, India in July 2008. He served as the Chief Scientific Officer, Director of R&D, and on the Board of Directors of this growing company until November 2012. Taking a phased early retirement from the University of Colorado in May 2014, Dhinakar is now devoting full time to his new biotech startup, Sudhin Biopharma Company in Superior, CO and its subsidiary R&D operations at Sudhin Biotech Private Limited in Chennai, India.

Andy Bala
'92 MTech, Computer Science


Andiappan (Andy) Bala is with Johnson & Johnson for the past 18 years and is currently a Senior Manager of Continuous Improvement (CI) Program within IT GTS World HQ.  In this role he is coaching internal enterprise level technology teams in Lean, Six Sigma methodologies to deliver higher value IT capabilities to J & J’s business. While working in earlier roles Andy earned an executive MBA from Stevens Institute of Technology. He is an avid golfer, participates in company supported tournaments and enjoys travelling with family and friends.
Andy holds a M. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering   degree from IIT-M.  He served in India after M Tech, as an Assistant Director of LRNG/LRDE, a ministry of defense project that developed radar networking and automation of data analysis capabilities and helped Indian Air Force with safer navigation of supersonic fighter & bomber aircraft.  Before getting into IIT, Andy earned B.E (Hons) ECE degree from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and served as a direct entry Aeronautical engineering officer managing a fighter aircraft squadron for the Air Force.
Andy is passionate about driving significantly more engagement of IITMAANA community in North Eastern U S and Canada.  He is willing to take lessons learned from Bay Area and adopt an approach that can work in east coast. He plans to collaborate with distinguished alum and former President of IITMAANA Robert Nathan to implement a sustainable e web strategy for IITMAANA. With active participation from everyone in our community and support from the board, he plans to leverage web portal capabilities to drive larger engagement and develop a thriving IITMAANA community
Dinesh Nattar
'81 PhD & '72 MSc, Chemistry


Dinesh is working with Ericsson as a System Architect. He has been with the same company for 31 years, starting with Bellcore as a Transmission Engineer, and moving on to several other assignments even as Bellcore was acquired by SAIC, became  Telcordia Technologies, finally being bought by Ericsson. Before joining Bellcore, Dinesh was a biochemist Post-Doc at Penn State University and earlier, he was a Post-Doc in Physical Chemistry at West Virginia University. Dinesh has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from IIT Madras, his thesis advisor being the famous 'Wills Filter' Subramanian, who was the legendary Mardi Gras Quiz master for decades. Dinesh did his M.Sc. also from IIT Madras, after graduating from Mysore University. While in Bellcore, he got an M.S. in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology.
He cherishes his first job most (voluntary) - as a clerk, accountant, secretary in a local co-operative society in India during his high school and early college years. No doubt he volunteered being the Treasurer. He moved recently from New Jersey to the Bay Area. As an IITM alumnus, he wants to be involved in working with a group of very nice enthusiastic people, especially in the Bay Area.
